The Civility Pledge Project was launched in the summer of 2022. The purpose of the project is to invite political candidates who have or will run for office in Newberg or Dundee, to agree to conduct their campaigns in a civil fashion. It is also an invitation for all of us as citizens to look for ways to reduce our own contributions to a toxic social environment. The central purpose of United as Neighbors is NOT to promote any political agenda or ideology, but to promote civility in the way we treat each other, regardless of ideology.
The working document includes the following 5 recommendations:
- I will be kind and respectful to everyone.
- I will listen to understand the views and values of people with whom I disagree.
- I will work to solve problems by seeking common ground.
- I will refrain from mocking or ridiculing those who disagree with me.
- I will seek to trust, and be trustworthy and truthful, in my interactions with others.
